Editing: Nike Kids and equipment

Product copy may seem like two to three sentences strung together in aid of an image, but it’s so much more. A researched and cultivated Tone of voice combines consumer focus, design intent, and persuasive writing into an extremely condensed word count that is helpful and focused.

In the Kids space, I spent months researching and performing trial and error with my writer to define and establish the new Nike Kids tone of voice that launched in 2020. When we were done, the tone felt familiar yet surprising, spunky yet cohesive.

Equipment editing was quite a bit different. Each sport voice needed a slightly different edge. This is where my write it like a movie philosophy came into play for products like the Jordan Diamond Basketball.

This product was designed in Oregon, USA, and takes its name from a favorite rock-climbing area in the state. "Rope De Dope" is a massive boulder in Smith Rock that kids like you can learn to rock climb on.
